Hilton Head Food & Wine Festival

2005: Silver Medal. (January 31, 2007)

Pinot Report

2003: 92 Smart Buy! "Concentrated and deep…" (November 30, 2005)

2001: 91 Smart Buy! "... full, dried cherry and blueberry flavors, spice and lavender notes.... The aromas of this Pinot are so pretty, you almost expect the flavors to be a let down. Not so. More elegant than some previous vintages, but still intense and flavorful." (May 31, 2003)

2000: 92 "Medium-deep ruby purple color, spice, mint, slight dense berry aromas; big though balanced, berry, some cherry fruit, overall nice mouthfeel, bit of green oak character, lingering finish. This is a big Pinot with a lot of nuance and character. Worth a little patience." (March 31, 2003)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2006: 89 "The nose offers more earth and mineral notes, while on the palate the wine is firm and just a bit narrow. However, the texture is silky and the flavors racy, giving an overall impression of elegance." – Robert Parker (November 1, 2008)

1999: 88 "... gorgeous red cherry aromas... a(n) opulent, juicy wine with attractive black cherry fruit ensconced in a well-structured character..." – Pierre Rovani (July 31, 2001)

2002: 91 (October 31, 2004)

Wine & Spirits

2005: 88 – Patrick Comiskey (September 30, 2007)

Wine Enthusiast

2006: 91 "This is a lovely bottle from a vineyard planted in 1974. It’s an almost-perfect mix of flower, fruit, and stone. It mixes the flavors elegantly into a wine that captures the elegance of the grape along with bright fruit, crisp acids, and just the right amount of herb." – Paul Gregutt (November 15, 2008)

2005: 89 "Pinot from this 30-year-old vineyard is spicy and fragrant, with overtones of pine needle and camphor. It’s very distinctive, elegant and stylish. It does not try to be either California Pinot or Burgundy; it is in some sense uniquely Oregonian. Aromas and fruit flavors are nicely threaded together, cherry and cranberry, pine and tomato leaf." – Paul Gregutt (November 15, 2007)

2004: 88 "Fragrant, aromatic and penetrating, it sends up lively aromas of spice, herb and pine needles. The scents are nicely threaded into the fruit, which mixes raspberry, cherry and crabapple with the spicy, leafy character of Oregon pinot." – Paul Gregutt (August 31, 2006)

2003: 90 Buying Guide. (July 31, 2005)

2001: 91 "Smoky aromas kick start things, and then comes a blast of tar, char and pure red fruit. The deep, structured, properly acidic palate is pure and healthy as can be, with cherry, raspberry and chocolate flavors coming together perfectly. And the rich, oaky finish is just as it should be. With zest, style and class, this is a fine domestic Pinot." – Michael Schachner (August 31, 2003)

2000: 89 "Here is a young, forward Pinot bursting with flavors of fruit preserves, chocolate and cola. Still a bit hard and tannic, with a rough, grainy, tannic finsih. But the power and muscle of this beast suggest it will improve with some time in the cellar, there is plenty of good raw material here." – Paul Gregutt (March 31, 2003)

Wine Press Northwest

2001: Outstanding! "Under the direction of Adam Campbell, this longtime Yamhill County winery is getting its second wind and producing wines of class and grace. This Pinot Noir speaks to us with its gentle aromas of moist earth, violets and raspberries and flavors of ripe cherries and hints of sweet oak. The velvety tannins will make your knees buckle." (September 30, 2003)

Wine Spectator

2004: 90 "Smooth and round, with a peppery note swirling around the Syrah-like blackberry flavors, lingering on the refined finish. Drink now through 2010." (May 31, 2006)

2001: 90 "Bright and generous, elegantly balanced to show off its strawberry, cherry and vanilla-spice flavors, hinting at rose petal as the flavors linger effortlessly. Drink now through 2007." (December 15, 2003)

2000: 87 "Crisp and juicy, appealing for its bright strawberry and floral aromas and flavors, finishing tight and focused. Drink now through 2005."

1998: 90 "Polished and seductive, a seamless wine with lovely bayleaf-scented raspberry, red currant and exotic spice flavors mingling on a plush texture, finishing with a tingle of acidity. Drink now through 2007." (April 30, 2000)

[Tanzer] International Wine Cellar

2005: 89 "Bright red. Pungently floral nose offers deep cheery and strawberry aromas and an exotic hint of sandalwood. Fleshy and suave, with sappy red berry flavors and a tangy mineral quality. The lightly tannic finish is spicy, meaty and long. I suspect that this medium-bodied pinot will benefit from another year of aging, but there's ample sweetness to give immediate pleasure." – Josh Raynolds (April 30, 2007)

2004: 86 "Spicy dark fruit bouquet of jammy cherry, blackberry, gingerbread and mocha. Lush and supple, with sweet, nicely defined blackberry and chocolate flavors. This deepens and picks up some warm, roasted notes with air." – Josh Raynolds (April 30, 2006)
